I bought this for $34 from Astor in NYC, based on a recommendation from Eric Asimov. I had been a bit nervous about it, as my most recently consumed natural red tasted as though it had been bottled at the wastewater treatment facility, but was very happily surprised. This has some funkiness, a tolerable amount, and a complex aroma of salted pecans, thyme, dark fruits and dried fruits. The dried fruits -- fig and prune, perhaps -- are prominent in the flavor. There is a dark sweetness, like a good Amarone, and the wild funkiness of a sagrantino. It is not particularly tannic, but has a nicely balancing level of acidity. We finished the bottle on day 4, and it hadn't disintegrated at all, which suggests that it has a lot of life ahead of it, even though it tastes fully mature.
My points of comparison for this wine (e.g., Bea Sagrantino Pagliaro and Bussola Amarone) cost at least twice as much, which suggests that this is a great bargain -- worth the risk.

Light brick color in the glass. The aromas of rose petals, dried herbs such as tarragon and basil, dried cranberries, freshly made strawberry jam, cloves and many more are simply jumping out of the glass. first sip I took was surprisingly refreshing; well balanced and well structured wine went down really smoothly leaving the taste of slightly dried strawberries, cranberries and dried herbs linger...

Third Coast Soif (Chicago, IL): Shows much older than I would have guessed -- has a bit of a nose that reminds me of 60s or 70s Barolo. Has that right tannic structure too.
