  • Reflecting upon my previous note, we were again victims of bottle variation. This wine had faint aromas and flavors of the nice tarry rose petal and red fruit that I love (and have only admittedly experienced a few times) in aged barolo. Disjointed, unbalanced volatile alcohols, and a short finish moderately tannic finish. I opened this bottle seeking that magical aura of the wine of kings and was mildly disappointed. Entertaining, yes. Enthralled, no.

  • Decanted. Opened favorably for the first 90 minutes then became a bit oxidized and sort of fell apart. No sediment. Perfect cork. Lots of fruit left for this 31 y/o with mild tannin. Dried, sour cherries, leather, shoe polish notes. Finish was decent length. I find there is always something mystical and ethereal about drinking a good barolo that affects me on many levels. This wine also did that for me..
