Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 87 points

  • Taste Italy (San Diego Wine Co.): 100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano from 15 yr old vines planted in sandy/clay terrain @ 985 ft elev; Typically, "Cryomaceration (maceration on the skins at low temp) followed by temp-controlled vinification in s/s tanks. Aged 8 mos in the bottle before release;" 750 cases made.

    N: Minerals with a frt (pears/apples?) that I can't quite place

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt very nicely offset by an acidity which keeps things in check into & through the LONG, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with hints of swtness. For now & probably through '20. 12.5% ABV; My VG+. 90 pts ea Suckling & WS. [This vendor's $11.99 is now ≈$3 < wine-searcher's only current posting.]

  • Taste Italy (San Diego Wine Co.): WAY too cold; Nonetheless, staff picked up on a POTENT diacetyl aroma that came across as burned popcorn.

  • By the glass. Another wine for conventions. Without complications there's not a minimum sense of terroir. Nonsense acidity with citrus and apple notes. If anything boring at its best.

Por copas. Otro vino para convenciones. Sin complicaciones ni un mínimo sentido del terruño. Acidez sin sentido con notas cítricas y de manzana. Si acaso aburrido en su mejor momento.

  • Top Picks for May (San Diego Wine Co.): WAY too cold

100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano from 15 yr old vines planted in sandy/clay terrain @ 985 ft elev; Typically, "Cryomaceration (maceration on the skins at low temp) followed by temp-controlled vinification in s/s tanks. Aged 8 mos in the bottle before release;" 750 cases made.

N: CLOSED; Guessing minerals & pears?

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with nice frt met by an acidity which becomes the "face" of this somewhat non-descript wine into & through the LONG, balanced, VERY slightly bitterish finish. For now & through '20, though MIGHT improve for a tad? 12.5% ABV; My VG. 90 pts ea Suckling & WS. [This vendor's $11.99 is $2 < wine-searcher's lowest.]
