  • 12% alcohol.

Youthful appearance with very deep, somewhat translucent bright black cherry color. Sweet-toned, somewhat robust and quite tertiary nose with aromas of meaty umami, raisins, some gamy tones, a little bit of barnyardy funk, light meat consommé and beef jerky tones and a hint of BBQ spice. The wine is medium-bodied, bone-dry and quite austere on the palate with piercing acidity and quite lean flavors of sour cherry bitterness, some metallic notes of iron, a little bit of tart lingonberry, light tarry tones and an oxidative hint of soy sauce. Although Caremas are never particularly fruity to begin with, this vintage seems to have lost most of its fruit by this point. The structure relies mostly on the taut, crunchy acidity, although the medium tannins still pack some punch and grip. The finish is moderately grippy with bone-dry, medium-long flavors of tart cranberries, some metallic bretty notes, a little bit of stony minerality, light lingonberry tones and a hint of sour cherry bitterness.

A nicely developed and somewhat tertiary Carema Nebbiolo that has started its first steps downhill. The wine is still quite alive and thoroughly drinkable, but the fruit certainly has lost lots of intensity, making the wine feel quite lean and angular, and the oxidative, umami-heavy notes of soy sauce and beef jerky have started to creep in. Quite pleasant, but nothing particularly thrilling. Better to be drunk sooner rather than later.
