  • Sara Perez wines with Michel Jamais (At six, Brunkebergstorg): Much softer than the Close Martinet on the attack, with rich round fruit but mid palate the almost harsh sloe berries takes over, morphing into a big bite of saddle leather bags and a very serious finish. This needs time. And a porterhouse steak.

  • Priorat wine fair 2019 (and related events); 5/2/2019-5/9/2019 (Tarragona and various places in Priorat): Next over to the stall of Mas Martinet. We started with the Escurҫons. An old acquaintance. I think this vintage has not been released yet because the vintage on the bottle had been manually altered. This vintage is promising good. Young of course but already showing encouraging signs. Dark fruit and very nice acid.
As an aside then we have been experiencing inferior cork quality from this producer, mainly on the Martinet Bru wine. We have seen two to three year old bottles with corks saturated almost through. Not long ago I opened a bottle with cork in this condition. I kept it and brought it with me in case I would meet people from Mas Martinet. At the stall. We broached this subject and expressed our concerns of cork quality. I dug up the cork and the representative from the winery conceded that this was not a good example. This was the 2017 vintage and the wine had seeped through two thirds of the cork. In addition it was soft in places. Nice to be able to give this feedback with concrete evidence.
