  • Pale yellow. Nose of eraser and a hint of honey. Tastes like lemon with some salinity and slight fizz on the finish. Nice enough, but not much complexity after opening.

  • Tried with family for Xmas! This is a bone dry Riesling from Elgin in the Western Cape (65km SE of Cape Town.) The region itself is known for apple production funnily enough. Spioenkop's Riesling is considered one of the more consistent quality Rieslings from the country by wine writer Tim Atkin, so I'm curious how this is.

    Color: Light, pale gold
Nose: Light intensity, notes of crushed green apple, wet pebble stones, lemon pith, light rock melon and straw
Palate: Medium minus intensity, high acidity, notes of lime peel, bitter lemon pith, white flowers, rock melon, crushed apple seeds and wound flinty metallic notes
Finish: Medium length with lingering bitter citrus, apple peel and flint

Pretty unique Riesling, almost Chablis-esqe. The acidity is still quite tight and given the aromatics this should be kept in cellar until 2027 me thinks. Overall drinking alright now but will be better in 5-10 years.
