Beautful deep ruby color, with some signs of tawny rings on the edges. Dark berry and vanilla on the nose Luscious entry, coats the palette, good follow through on nose. More complex then you may expect from a merlot, well balanced. Lovely lingering finish

Shared with friends, an evening of tasting Meerlust wines. Medium plum colour. Veggie nose, prunes, earthiness. Palate has plenty of grip, chewy and plummy fruit. It's good, but I think it has past its peak.

First stop in Stellenbosch was at Meerlust Wines off R310. The next red wine was their 2016 Merlot. Medium ruby red in appearance. Fresh attack on the nose with eucalyptus, green herbs and tobacco. Undertones of cherry tomatoes. Medium tannins (5.5/10) with a medium body. A bit meaty on the palate with some iron and red berries. Medium length and dry finish. Drink till 2026.
