Pretty solid for a ‘17. Nose seems to give off better bouquet of fresh fruits, mocha, herbs, vanilla and chocolate. Medium bodied palate, not fully expressing but getting there. Lush dark berry fruit, slight earth with decent acidity and chewy tannins on medium finish.

Interesting how a previous reviewer indicated fire problems, when Mascot website stated that the 2017 was produced "from fruit brought in before wildfires began in autumn." LOL. Anyways, I brought a bottle of this to Christmas dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It was pretty tight upon open but did develop nicely over the course of dinner. Went well with the Veal Osso Bucco Ravioli. The nose opened up and the freshness emerged on the palate. At 14.5% ABV, the alcohol was a bit aggressive. Fruity notes became more apparent with the Porterhouse steak. Yum! When dessert came around, I passed and opted for more Mascot wine! At the end, we had about half of a bottle remaining for the next day. The overnight aeration mellowed the tannins some more and made it a really pleasant drink. Definitely worth having in the collection. For my tastes, could do with more time in the cellar.

Agreed with Kostaslonis note below. Loads of fruit but lacks acidity and finishes bitter and hot. This is not how I remember it and, at this point, it feels like it's past peak.

Drank with our annual NYE prime rip, decanted for 3 hours, was smooth leathery while still retaining the big red fruit flavors
