  • forgot to look at disgorgement date... will add later. deeply colored showing a lot of red varietal in there… pretty standard NV mousse… aromatically its red fruit dominated, quite a bit of fruit, noticeable minerality, minimal lees and older wines. on the palate high acids, a bit round on the midpalate (neutral oak or full malo or riper chard in there). balanced wine with very good length, great intensity, nice complexity. plenty of finesse, a very fine texture, excellent expression of place. really nice.

  • This was the 03/21 disgorgement. This has really come together. Elegant interplay between fruit and minerals. Not too much in the way of mature notes, just a bit of brioche.

  • This Adrien Renoir 50/50 blend of Pinot and Chardonnay comes from the Grand Cru village of Verzy and was disgorged June 2022. Compared to the BD3C this wine feels more powerful and full, but I wouldn’t call it a particularly full bodied wine on its own. There’s impeccable balance and harmony here. Beautiful lemony acid and then this wonderful spicy aroma and palette presence that I can’t point to any one particular spice, but it’s more like a spice blend where each element enhances the others. I really like this quality in champagne. Lovely autolytic notes show up as the wine warms, and I found this wine to really hit its high mark with about 2 hours of air and served at cellar temp. Everything comes into full force, and before we knew it, the bottle was empty. Need to grab a few more of these - excellent QPR.

  • This entry level bottling is purportedly 50/50 Pinot and Chardonnay, but I thought it was a BdB because of the citrus and white flower. In hindsight though it would be unusual to have a BdB from Verzy, although he does do an excellent one (Les Montants). Appropriately lee-sy, but most importantly vinous. Many growers espouse a lean, mineral style with low to no dosage that can end up being thin and shrill if the fruit is insufficiently ripe or perhaps too-gently pressed - a problem compounded by the recent trend of salami slicing cuvées that lowers the overall quality of entry level cuvées. Anyway, this had salinity and minerality but also a rounded, decently mid-weight palate and good extract depth. Excellent for the price

  • Disgorged 2022. Great bottle. Don't serve too cold (go for 15° or more), let it breathe.

On the nose citrus, peach, apple. On the palette bright, good quality acidity; pears, apples, brioche. Slopes of Verzy are north-facing, which makes it very bright and linear.

Pinot noir brings nice structure to it. It has a medium body and a nice roundness to it. Can easily age up to three more years.
