  • A monster. Very similar to the not entered before. Needs time. Will be amazing in 2030, but a solid 96 to '97 today. This one was compared to a Schrader RBS To Kalon from the same year. This is definitely more of a roasted red, black, and blue fruit wine compared to the RBS which was definitely Napa floor by comparison. Both wines insanely dense and thick, and both with a lot of life left.

  • This wine disappeared REEEALLY fast. It did require about 20 minutes of bottle decanting to get it going. This is a 2016 Cimarossa, so basically This is a little bit more than a barrel sample! The Buriana Cab is a newer offering from this producer, but Mia Klein has already figured out how to make an extremely complex and balanced red, blue, and black fruited wine from these amazing grapes. Poured a dark maroon to the glass. The nose is roasted black cherry, dates, smoked blueberry, and brambly blackberry. The palate mimics the nose, adding a roasted chestnut and espresso bean immediately on the front, and adds an herbal characteristic in the middle. The finish has a ton of black pepper and very toasted oak tannin. Still a baby, but this wine is the epitome of what Howell Mountain fruit can produce, and 16 is a vintage with a lot of density, complexity and excellent fruit quality. I think it will definitely go to the darker fruit notes as it gains another 5 or 10 years of bottle age. 97 for me, with serious upside potential!

  • Incredibly smooth, great flavor. Tannins forward but expected, best of the night.

  • WOTN......all agreed. Deeper, denser fruit than the others tonight. Dark mountain fruit, HMC got it blind as Howell Mtn. Will benefit from more time in the bottle, but it's drinking well right now. Tannins are strong, but with its mountain acidity and the strong dark mountain fruit, it's all good.
