  • Extremely mousy and acidic - even worse on day two and undrinkable

  • Medium ruby/ purple color - unfiltered
Medium plus aromas dominated by mousey Brett with red/blue fruit and grilled meat with green stemmy notes
Medium minus palate of sour cherry/ plum with sour lactic notes - almost like sour milk - quite unpleasant
Medium plus acidity with medium minus tannins and medium alcohol
I am quite tolerant of the funk of "natural" wines but this was over the top
Undrinkable in my opinion - didn't want a second glass
Might have been a bad bottle but based on previous reviews this doesnt seem to be the case
I have enjoyed Souhaut's Syrahs and Gamays in the past but that is not the case here

  • The reviewer below is right. There is mouse in the house! More so on day two. Other notes are olive tapenade. Upon first opening it was natty, slightly petulant (secondary fermentation) and lovely. So I gave it no decanting. Then 5 hours later, the gang tasting it blind, picked up something they couldn't ID. I know what it was: mouse, the bane by-product of brett's bacterial bretheren. I tend to be more forgiving of these "flaws" than others, so I drink on through day 2. However, by day 3 it was Mighty Mouse and down the drain.

91pts upon opening, dropping to 89+ on day two, 81pts on day 3.

  • Mouse!!! All four bottles have had issues with mouse. Don’t know if it’s the producer or this vintage but I’m not gambling anymore.

  • I've liked some wines from Souhaut in the past, but the '18 Syrah is a bit much for me. The nose was quite nice although clearly natural and pretty wild with olive tapenade, blueberry and black fruit, smoked meats, and spices. On the palate, the wine is super acidic with blue and purple fruit and olive brine and some herbal flavors. It's an aggressive wine on the palate, almost painfully acidic.
