HDH Bordeaux Auction; 11/9/2018-11/10/2018 (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. Herbal and quite intense on the nose, with a slight hint of green, but plenty of golden raisins. Caramelly and intense, with so much sweet dried fruit and acidity here. I love the intensity here, and while Salil may be right (ugh, I hate admitting that), there might be a touch of oxidation here. On the other hand, it's still an incredibly delicious bottle of wine.

Not as good as a previous bottle. Dark brown color. Slight VA, lots of candied orange peel, lots of sugar, syrupy texture, lots of acidity. Tasty but missing the flavor intensity and wow factor.

Grand Sich excess: A spectacular, intoxicating fragrance from the moment the cork's pulled - an array of dried apricots, honey, marmalade, and all sorts of high toned spices ranging from fiery chili powder to ginger and horseradish notes. The palate is every bit as outrageous as the nose suggests - there's incredible complexity and intensity of flavour but unbelievable acidity here, to the point that the acids are almost a bit overwhelming, not unlike a Sercial or Terrantez. Insane focus and length, and a real treat. Those old Catoirs rarely disappoint.

The nose on this is over the top - spice, marzipan, apricots ... this all combines with the 10% alcohol to make something quite bizarre and intoxicating. The palate is creamy with figs, molasses, great acid, apricots and spices. Not a sharp corner at all - deep, sweet, spicy. Good snap, spice and great acid at the end. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 18/20.

Cloyingly sweet. Syrup without the viscosity. Complex, with piercing acidity, spice and floral notes but the sweetness was too much for me.
