Still light in color and dominated by vanilla from barrel aging. Certainly well made, but it's much like a cake where the frosting dominates. OK, so I love dobash cakes with their multiple layers, and in this sense this wine appeals. There is plenty of fruit tho it finishes just a hair sweet (from the oak) and soft. So who knows? I suspect this wine will continue to grow over at least the next few years. In style, it seems much more Burgundian than Italian.
(4/13/2020) Was disarming at first due to its relatively light color. But like good Burgundy and Nerello Mascalese from Mount Etna, it shows well both in nose and flavors, emphasizing refined subtlety over power. A dusting of tannin along with a nice acid-fruit balance indicates it will improve over the next 5 years or so.

tasted blind at a gathering of italian wines and it didnt fool or impress. lighter in body than expected left others wondering if it could be a pinot noir blend.

A Very well made sangiovese form a winery in the foothills that specializes in the variety. A lot lighter in color than most sangioveses, but nice nose of tart cherry. Good tart cherry and maybe a little strawberry on the palate, very smooth with good acidity. I didn't get much tannin at all. Nice medium finish. Went well with the flat breads we had. Very good price / quality.

I opened this way too early. Day 1, good, but tight and not overly complex. Day 3, a completely different wine that showed plenty of character and complexity, as well as an extremely pleasant finish. I'd wait at least 2-3 years before opening another without a long decant.
