As in my prior note this is unlike any merlot I've previously had, and we enjoy merlot so much thats the name of our dog.
Pnp, this is Unusually soft and light; while i don't see the green or herbal notes from WE or WA, there's definitely clove, I cherries and cola above dry, dusty tannins that provide a lengthy, polished finish mid to back palate. One of the odd times Rose rated a wine a point or two above my 89, i think my distaste (and her love of) cola is the differentiator for us tonite.
While I don't see this improving I suspect it has 3+ years in its drinking window. For me this requires food, and it was a great pairing w our sauteed salmon tonite. However i didnt enjoy this as a drinking wine and Coravin'd a glass of Lewelling between my first glass and dinner

This is good wine. The fruit is tasty, the oak is not overpowering, it drinks well with or without food and it's drinking well right now with a good decant. Although as someone mentioned for a previous vintage, at $75 a bottle it's a little steep, definitely worth it if you can get a deal on it though

Pop and pour. Poor glasses make it tough to discern but this is well balanced and unlike most merlots we’ve enjoyed. Thanks to Ryan at Spire/Jess Jacksons Calistoga property For understanding what we enjoy in wine and turning us onto this and several others in a blind tasting.
