Wow! Another innocuous zin from Ridge. Being an almost 50/50 blend of zin and petite sirah I thought this would be a fierce grippy beast of a wine. I’ve considered opening this for months. To my chagrin it is soft and uneventful. And it’s not that old, should be in its wheelhouse. The word “poofy” comes to mind. It’s easy drinking, not bad, but considering the producer, vineyard, and varietals I hoped for so much more.

Fully mature & softening. Showing a bit of age, roundness. Lush soft fruit, dark strong. Great length. Very good. In its Ridge middle age phase, past youthful exuberance but not faded. Drink before too long.

Still showing somewhat primary on the nose. Boysenberry and redwood. Richly fruited palate though not a lot of extraction. The fruit still has a soft tinge of youth. The structure is really nice. The acidity is very apparent giving it a real backbone. The tannin is much milder than you would expect with that high percentage of Petit Sirah. I like the liveliness here even though I would have admit I probably should have waited a bit longer to open another one. Biggest pause is that I noticed some heat around the edges. Still one of the better recent special releases from Ridge.

Inventory Reduction Program: Light and uneventful. Opened a day prior to drinking. Similar to the bottle I had last March. Drink up.

Drinking well. On the light side for Zin blend but drinkable. Medium light body, red fruit, decent acidity.
