  • Black cherry, Asian 5 spice, molasses (brown sugar?) and an earthy quality make an accurate first impression of what to expect from this bottle. They all raise their individual voices on the palate. Not as smokey as I recall this being, but some smoke is there nonetheless. The mineral laced finish is shared with a distinct lavender flavor. The mouthfeel is meaty, like a portabello mushroom. The heat on the finish detracts and reflects the 15.2% alc. A solid effort with years ahead of it. With grilled pork loin chops topped with a molasses BBQ sauce. (Leftovers from the night before, but everybit as good.) Recommended.

  • Bight cherry and Asian 5 spice wake up the nose. Cranberry, smoke and distinct earthy mineral round out the flavors. The Asian 5 spice continues through the midpalate and finish with some vanilla. Excellent lift and balance. This still isn’t at peak, but another year or so should pay dividends. 15.2% alc. With pork loin chops stuffed with manchego cheese. Not the best pairing; a Chard would have been better. Recommended.

  • Very much like the notes from the last bottle. So very cherry with a bite os spice. But the 15.2% alc shows a tad hot on the finish. It worked well with the olive, sun-dried tomato and fennel crusted salmon. Recommended.

  • So much more enjoyable than it was six months ago. The cherry, cola and earth notes are much more lively and distinct. A definite Asian 5 spice on the midpalate and finish with some vanilla rounding out the end of the finish. Good lift through the midpalate with well balanced acidity and tannins. However, the tannins still need some time to tone down. In another year or two, this should be singing. 15.2% alc. With seared three seeded ahi tuna and succatash. Recommended.

  • Cherry, cola and earth, but not distinguished well. The flavors are mute and the wine never quite comes alive. This may well be in a dumb stage just now. It has all the components to be a nice wine, but it just doesn’t express it well at this point. Given some time, this should come around. 15.2% alc. With baked salmon dressed with lemon and herbs, country ham (pork) with cranberry-bourbon sauce, Coleman mustard sauce, scalloped potatoes and biscuits (regular and sweet potato). Christmas wines. Recommended.
