Another very dark and ripe showing for Belle Gros. This one is really ripe on the nose with loads of black cherry fruit, but not overly expressive. Palate is ripe and sweet with more black cherry fruit, some blackberry as well but this is mainly cherry which veers it away from feeling like a Syrah. The tannins are also very soft and sweet with more black cherry on the finish. This is drinking very well. Would not want to keep longer - the sweet fruit is the main attraction here - so get it while it is still sweet. Not like any burgundy I've ever had - but really tasty for what it is.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (R&S's): Double blind. Again, dark color. Aromas of bacon pepper, dark fruit and black cherry. Abundant dark fruit on the palate, with ripe berries, bacon and spice. Long finish. Guessed WA syrah. (R&S)

I enjoyed the previous bottle but this time it came across as confected and contrived, which was what I ended up focused on. Certainly drinkable but it seems to me to be a wine designed for a specific flavour profile rather than an expression of the grape.
