Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 93 points

  • 1.5 hr decant. An impressive mix of dark berries, peat, clove and lavender on the nose. Cherry and mocha on the palate. The oak is a little too strong for my tastes so far but we have half the bottle left to try again tomorrow. For now, fwiw,
Score: 93. Relative to expectations: +

A day later after double decant. Spices now very prominent on the nose: cinnamon, allspice, clove, anise. Lots of vegetal stalkiness and astrigent tannins. Fruit is a mix of cherry and dried cranberry. Really impressive length now shows through. This does not taste at all like a “new world” wine, but frankly it really doesn’t seem very Pomerol either, more like a St Julien(!). Intellectual more than hedonistic for me, a big surprise for a 2006 Pomerol.

  • a rather high acidity, burned impressions, cocos, subtile, impressive aftertaste, still too young

  • Brought to a tasting ( high end wine tasting with close friends )

+ Preparation - slow O2 in decanter for 2.5 Hrs
+ Nose - smokey, burnt, ripe black fruits, marmalade, burnt coffee
+ Taste - beautiful, round, elegant, fleshy, black fruits, raisins
    + Finish - wow !!! Long, intense, hedonistic, ...

My first La Violette ( and the first vintage of the new owner ), this 2006 did tick all the boxes.
All my expectations on this wine were surely met, however still too young to fully enjoy.
I would think ( and so did my fellow taster ), the wine will become even smoother with time.

  • Drank as red wine #1 at New Years dinner. This is an interesting wine. Some lightening around the edges. Nice expressive nose of brambly fruit, flowers and spice. One the palate, this starts off very light but adds weight on the midpalate and the finish. While lots of reviews talk about the La Violette as "new world" in profile, this particular vintage is more classic Bordeaux with spice, cedar chest and some earth and fruit. Not really able to discern more. This is enjoyable but gets a couple points more for being a bit more unusual and interesting.

  • The first vintage for the new owners only begins to show the full potential of the vineyard. Yet, there is no denying the smoky, spice, truffle, black raspberry and floral secondary aromatics. On the palate, the sultry textures polished red fruits stick with you from start to finish.
