  • Bought at Bevmo as part of the buy one get one which made this bottle effectively 10 bucks – and seems to be fitting for the price.

Nose is very oaky – but none of the fruit is showing through for me. Later a rubber band smell develops on the nose. Palate wise is better. I get the generic cherries and berries profile of Zin – but they are muddled enough that I am picking out individual flavors. Light well integrated tannins, dry, and balanced. Medium finish that is peppery. Overall, this wine is rather generic and is of table wine quality.

Aside: When we opened it, it seemed generic and like a bulk wine. Off to the website to get some info and the whole entire reserve series seems to be missing. The Bevmo website states that it is “exclusive” to them, but even when that has been the case with other winemakers there is still some info about the wine. Then I looked at the Ancient Vines Contra Costa County tasting notes on Cellartracker I noticed that none of my note here matches. I am convinced this is not the same wine even though they share the same UPC.

Does anyone have any information about this bottling? We still have another bottle and I feel like a trek to Total Wine is in order to pick up the Ancient Vines bottle for comparison.

  • Still not bad, but can't be good for much longer

  • Unimpressive, even after sitting a while, but it's fine as table wine. Won't store well, so drink up.

  • Jammy. Not dry, like it says on the label. And won't last long. Need to drink soon.
