Purple in color. 14% ABV. Savory nose of black fruits, plums and pepper. Medium body with with just enough acidity. Claret style, old school Zinfandel. Blackberry, black raspberry, cocoa and Howell Mountain white pepper on the palate. Super length on the finish. This was the first time I have had a Heitz Zinfandel. Delicious wine from an iconic winery. Bought at retail while on a vacation in San Diego for $30 and I feel like it was money well spent. Best over the next 2-4 years.

A classic Zinfandel, with noticeable oak aging (still quite prominent after 5 years of aging). It went very well with ragù and I think it really needs something strong like that for the wine to perform well. On it's own, it was quite oaky for me.

bought on the heritage ... not a winner this time. just kind of simple, definitely a lighter rendition of Zin, but largely without character. it was "fine."

Followed over two days. Day one not a lot of depth but decent fruit, now fading, and some peppery accents, medium acid, and mature tannic structure. Feeling oxidized by day two. Perhaps this is a good sign to drink now. "Good to very good," 85/100.

Relatively light from a body, color and tannin perspectives. But quite austere. Lots of cherry aromas with hints of wet stones, mint and blood.
