Clear medium reflective ruby. Red licorice dominates on the nose with a subtext of red cherries. Red cherries lead the palate with underbites of pomegranate and Seville oranges. Sweet red fruit goes on forever in the finish accented with lovely tannins.

Here’s my attempt at trying something off my beaten path: Spanish Tempranillo (with a dash of Mazuelo—whatever that is. Okay, just looked it up, it’s what we Yanks know as Carignane. Gotcha.) This wine is a-okay. I’m not going to buy anymore, especially at this price point, let’s put it that way.
Aerated and decanted for 4+ hours. Red fruit basket, some woodsy stuff, fig. I have one more bottle. Going to let it lie for quite a spell.

Tasted against the 2011 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial and other MdM wines. Less opulent and layered than the 2012 Castillo Ygay for me, at least so far. Dark red, lightly brickish colour, very transparent. Spicyness, anise, dark cherry, fig, wood.
MdM representatives said '11 was a tough year with lots of rain in the spring, uneven temperatures compared to the warm 2012.
2011 is 93p for me,
2012 is 96p for me.
Thanks for the side by side tasting along with Giacomo Borgogno & Figli wines!

Unfortunately dominated by the taste of dill. Tart dill juice is how I would describe it.
