Purple with slightly light reddy brown at the edge, nose of red fruits, stewed fruits, cocoa powder and leather notes, cinnamon. Sweet berry flavours, stewed meats, cured meats... mid weight, good acid balanced with mild, powdery tannins... a little hot on the finish, but the tannins and red fruit strap flavours linger... nice, good QPR. Interesting contrast to the 2016.
2nd night the tannins had mellowed nicely and, like the slow cooked ragu it accompanied, the flavours had melded nicely into a lovely spice driven wine with star anise, sweated onions and sweet smoked paprika. Nice!

A poor man’s chateauneuf du pape. Give it air and it will reward you. Nice QPR for $19. Drink or hold. Give it at least an hour decant, two if you can. Air broadens and deepens it.

Russk. A solid bistro wine with a bit of carbonic on the finish.
