  • I have been critical on some Medoc wines from 2019 for being too easy-drinking and while this Ch. Bellevue shares similar traits, I actually like it better for what it is. Maybe I don't have that much of a preconception, how a St. Emilion should be than I have for a Margaux, St. Julien etc.
Colourwise this is dark, almost black, however as with other 2019s there is quite some translucence around the rim. Likewise this is glossy, but not overly viscous. On the nose the wine is rather closed, but you get perfumed sweet dark fruits, some exotic spices and florality and a good dose of steely minerality. Complex and delivered in a very pure and detailed way without a trace of oak, only the 14,5 ABV can be felt a little bit.
In the mouth the wine is lively and fresh and while intense it does not feel heavy. Overall there is a kind of verticality, the extraction is judicious, the fruit feels redder than on the nose and there is the chalky sensation of the limestone. With its sandlike tannin largely conceiled and its quite powerful finish the wine is already very enjoyable, but by 2024 or 2025 it should have further opened up. This is high quality wine-making for a moderate tariff!

  • Soft, polished and fresh, the wine is medium-bodied and already displaying its core of flowers, espresso, crushed rock and plummy character. Medium/full-bodied, with chalky tannins and a chocolate coated, plum, mint, espresso and licorice finish, give this 100% old vine Merlot gem a few years in the cellar before pulling a cork. Drink from 2025-2045.

2025-2038 vvWine.ch

  • Showing a nice deep color, the wine exudes a dark berry, truffle, chocolate and plum filled character. Round, lush, polished and concentrated, the finish offers length and complexity. 93-95 Pts
