Burgundy reds: In contrast to the Bachelet, this was a new-school Burgundy with gentle extraction and short elevage that are supposed to give immediate approachability. Nose still dominated by oak use with a heavy scent of vanilla, on the palate it had a stemmy and sweet candied kirsch-like element. No rusticity and heaviness normally associated with Pommard, not sure if this is meant for long-term ageing. Think I prefer his whites.

2018 Burgundy sampling gathering (Undisclosed location in McLean, VA): Surprisingly pale color especially in lieu of the vintage. Medium expressive nose displaying subtle black fruit, blackberry soda, black cherry, a hint of unripe fruit, sweet spices and limestone. Medium concentration, subtle slightly watery black fruit, medium acidity, strong mineral and a medium long subtle black fruit driven finish. My guess is that this was either picked really early or press very gently. With air, the unripe fruit note dissipates. Not sure how this will age.

I do love this area. Beautiful red fruit. The wine is a little structured now but lovely on the finish.
