I was really pleased with this. Beautiful reduction and minerality. I would never have guessed this to be a ‘warm’ vintage like 2018. Lovely balance and freshness. One of the best village wines I have recently tried.

A pale yellow gold color. Very clean in appearance. On the nose, I get a classic old school burgundy style. Smoke, white orchard fruit, some herbs. Really clean and balanced. Not overly nuanced. On the palate, this is lovely. Ripe white orchard fruit, melon, pear. Good balancing acidity. Medium plus body with a soft and silky texture. Overall this is quite classical. Not too round, not too edgy. Good concentration, but with a slightly bitter citrus rind note on the finish that I often get in the 2018s (not my favorite white burgundy vintage, but Pillot does a nice job).

I bought one bottle of this vintage on purpose to try how Thierry Pillot managed the scorching hot 2018 vintage, I chose a rvillage level on purpose. Upon opening it was classic chassagne generosity, a hint of rusticity, the wine showed good freshness and was good at its level. Then, 3 or 4 hours of air later, it started to flat out and slowly evolve into a collapsed version of itself, so if you have a case, drink it sooner than later !

Jason’s ‘top’ village Burgundy (67 Pall Mall, London): Light yellow. Nose not particularly expressive. Medium to medium full on the palate coming over as very pure and precise with white fruits and plenty of energy. Really well balanced and confident without needing to try too hard. Vineyard rather than winery. Right up my street. Lovely. From Zalto Montrachet.

Jason's 'top' village Burgundy (67 Pall Mall): Very Pillot, precise but not at all spiky, not too assertive but with plenty to say. Just a touch of reduction and a feeling of airy weightlessness. Clean as a whistle on the palate, some juicy green melon and green apple, pretty and harmonious, then some smoke on the finish. Felt ready, but should keep for years. My favourite white tonight for its 'Goldilocks' qualities - not too sharp, nor too broad.
