THIRTY In THIRTY; 4/1/2021-4/30/2021: A: Pale gold N: Pronounced nose of JOLLY RANCHER lime candy, GUAVA, PASSION FRUIT, ELDERFLOWER Some reduction (flinty, struck match) notes found here....thanks to stainless steel, SO2 and screw cap P: Dry, high acidity (zesty - inside of mouth opposite gums at the top is tingling a LOT 1 minute after spitting out. SPHERICAL shaped acidity), medium alcohol, pronounced intensity , medium (-) body and just a medium finish C: Wow! Got that lovely acid and fruit balance. Length leads a lot to be desired but intensity is ideal. It is a simple wine. Good quality wine and very typical. < $10 a bottle from Aldi. Does the job. Another NW producer of SB, South Africa, is more like a European wine. Australia tries to emulate NZ. Quite candied. The Napa SBs are more oak influenced.
FUN FACT: Marlborough SB is grown on gravelly soil to great effect....just like its descendent grape, Cab Sav. They both seem to benefit from the same soil.

If you haven't listened to the NPR podcast 'How I Built This' interview with the McBride sisters, you need to. It's what pointed me in the direction of trying their wines. I love the Sauvignon Blanc as a late afternoon/early evening wine. It stands by itself without being too sweet or dry. I've also had their Sauvignon Blanc in their canned wine 'She Can'. They also do a rose in the can which I like for the same reasons as the Sauvignon Blanc.

This is a solid Marlborough SB that I would drink again. Not great, but solid. I thought it was a little too fruity and syrupy. I'd prefer it to be a little more crisp.
