Deep ruby color; Medium aromas of plums, bake cherries, vanilla, leather, smoke, and tobacco. Juicy acidity, medium-plus body, and drying, coarsely textured tannins. Pepper, bramble, and berry jam to the finish. Aged for 6 months in used French barriques. Vineyard planted in 1936 at 1600 foot elevation in limestone and clay soils.
Markers for Grenache - lower acidity, higher tannin and body, baked sometimes jammy red fruit, white pepper Markers for Navarra - lower alcohol and higher acidity due tohigher altitude, Rioja like leather-tobacco-brett aromas, little to no oak

April Blind Tasting with Master of Wine Lindsay Pomeroy; 4/8/2020-4/30/2020 (Temecula, CA): Tasted double blind with Pomeroy MW. Incorrectly identified as Grenache, Priorat/Catalunya. Close but no cigar.
