I really enjoyed this wine and would think it is at peak drinking now. It is starting to show bricking and has fine sediment even when filtered. The nose is pine forest and Christmas cake. Slight taste of stewed plum but not a lot of fruit. Overall a very smooth dry red with soft tannins and a medium finish.

The label has suffered more than most in my damp cellar, so the alcohol level is illegible. Decanted 1/2 hr. Lots of deposit in the glass even though I decanted only 2/3 of the bottle. Medium deep colour showing some sign of evolution at the rim. Rich ripe nose which develops faintly oxidative notes in the course of the meal. The mouth is less rich with good fuit, good acidity and no obvious oak; the finish is long enough, with confectionery notes and some unresolved tanins. In spite of these, I would be inclined to drink my remaining bottles within the next two years. This is my favourite Côtes de Castillon, and given that the year is not the most promising, this bottle can be rated a success.

A private lunch (Restaurant Essigbrätlein **, Nuremberg, Germany.): Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a hint of Cabernet-Sauvignon. A real peasant of a wine. Old fashioned, farmyardy (but not bretty), strangely attractive.

Better then earlier tastings. Did not last overnight in the fridge after opening.
