  • Started cold and allowed to warm in the glass, consumed half before and half after dinner. Very nice nose, green apple and cinnamon, pronounced notes of creamsicle. I like the concentration, streak of chalkiness. Some oak is apparent but nicely framing, not aggressive or out of balance. Had a good core of dense fruit, lively acidity, not abrasive. Didn't like it at room temp at all, as it seemed to go flat, dissipated and blah when too warm. Jonathan thought it got some fake sugar taste on the finish in the last glass. It's definitely a wine full of character, and I will enjoy drinking my remaining bottles. But at close to $100 it is way overpriced for my taste and not a rebuy.

  • Blanc de blancs. Degorged March 2020. Zero dosage. Organic and biodynamic. Bright, fresh, citrus; swirling fine perlage. Chalk and slightly saline. Brilliant now with long life ahead. Excellent as sophisticated aperitif, also suited to seafood.

  • Disgorged May 2020. 100% Chardonnay from the BdB villages of Avize and Cramant, no dosage and this is the village stuff so I am unsure whether this gets farmed bio but I would think it would be organic knowing Benoit's commitments. This bottle (and some others from the East Coast) ended up being transited to me during the record heat last week in the southern US so while I wanted to hold this bottle for a time, I wanted to instead get it opened now to check for any overt heat damage. Whether damage will surface down the road in the other bottles I don't know but this bottle is sound, tastes just fine. Lightly gold in color. This has a light chill only, which is my own personal approach to drinking zero dosage. I have found consistently this style is best honored when the temp is this way. Aromatics? Buttered toasted bread, honeysuckle and citrus zest. The palate? Plenty of texture here, a good example of how zero dosage can be a mental trap for something austere. In contrast, this wine is fleshy, round, plenty of texture. Yellow apple, lime, chalky, reminiscent of Larmandier-Bernier Old Vine (from Cramant) with the same kind of depth and expression. There is a spicy quality to this wine, a prolonged spicy finish that plays alongside the fennel, pear and yellow apple, finishing with a chalky, lime imprint. This is a damn good wine, but please, wines like this (and Marie Courtin, and Larmandier-Bernier Terre de Vertus) don't deserve to be crushed with a cold chill. Pour it, let the chill wear mostly off and then taste the purity of this kind of wine.

  • Fantastic. Calming down without any age gaining. Very fresh, generous, saline lime and lemon with lot of chalk. True to terroir and Grand Cru level of energy and focus. Simply great.

  • While showing a typical 2015 Marguet profile of slightly overripe apple and yellow plum fruit, this was almost watery on the palate and seemed closed. There was a distinct natty character to the nose, which didn't seem entirely clean. This was a disappointment after a brilliant bottle of the 2013 earlier this year.
This actually came around a bit on day 2 showing better freshness, although it still feels like a lightweight in this vintage compared with the 2013.
Overall a strong hold for me, this release needs time to sort itself out.
