Pulled the cork 4 hours before drinking. Very evolved, brownish colour. Initially a weak, slightly musty nose, making me wonder if this could be in a state of decline. As one hour passed and I poured a second glass, the wine came back to life: a beautiful lavender nose with scorched earth, garrigue, bouquet garni, lovely raspberry and kirsh flavours, testifying to a good (though not extraordinary) complexity. On the palate, the balance is perfect, tannins fully resolved, the body is light with lovely acidity carrying the fruit through the medium finish. Not an ounce of heat or heaviness, this is just elegance, and you can sense the Grenache. A beautiful wine. If you have some, make sure to slowly oxygenate it to bring it back to life.

This was my 1st experience with this producer and this was a good surprise. Thought this was a good old school CdP. Intense and mature nose with plenty of old leather, herbs and stewed strawberry with dark fruits. Cocoa and paprika. A touch of VA. The palate also shows stewed fruit and low acidity but the wine is in no way cloying or heavy. Probably at its peak. I just read that Cambie became consultant in 2003....crap....

To me the 2000 Cuvée Grenache has already seen its days of glory. The wine shows clear signs of aging with a light velvety colour and a nose full of dark smooth fruit without any hard edges. The palate is perfectly integrated but the length on the finish is too short to provide an experience worth remembering. Tannins, acidity and fruit are nicely balanced, despite fading fruit. This wine most likely peaked a couple of years ago, but still provides pleasurable drinking. Drink up!

Could have been over the hill? Soy sauce, stewed fruit. Some sweet fruit left which kept the wine from having a lower score.
