  • Last of my lot. On earlier bottles I drank a little quickly and this time I opened the bottle about 3-4 hours ahead of dinner and just let it sit. Perfect with lamb shank tajine. The wine was beautiful, powerful, fresh dark fruit, rim going slightly garnet, but a wine at the height of its powers. Not super complex in any particular sip but the profile continued to evolve and change through dinner. Perfect poise and balance.

  • I agree very much with the note below. What a wonderful wine! Seemingly, it has been open for business its entire life. This is very vibrant and energetic, so much so that I asked my company if this was Syrah or Pinot Noir. They guessed Pinot Noir. There are fine syrah-spice notes revealing this is not PN, but the feel of the wine is that of PN; rather pale colour, airy, juicy and intense, not much tannin, dry and slightly austere notes, that can only be from Europe, and then all the spices and smoke. Delicious, satisfying and complex.

  • Beautiful! Especially in the aromas that still has a lot of fresh fruit and berries alongside subtle tertiaty notes. The stucture is still quite juicy with soft acidity and very tender tannins. At the peak without further improvement. Drink up with pleasure.

  • I only somewhat reluctantly bought this bottle, having not enjoyed a Darnaud in the past; however, this bottle was excellent. The nose could barely wait for the cork to leave the bottle. Herbaceous tones. Given the nose, that there was ample fruit on the palate did not come as a surprise. The oak was fully integrated. This wine is drinking very well right now, I can't imagine it getting much better from here.

  • Decanted 90 mins. Pronounced Rhone nose of barnyard, pavement, and some smoked meats. Starts off on the palate like a good Cotes-du-Rhone with vibrant red fruit, then things get interesting. Though the earthy nose is present on the palate, it stays in the background, supporting a midpalate of tart red fruit, green vegetable, and a finish that shows bitter earth, then backs off into pepper and smooth, sweet tannins. This wine is really alive and popping. It's not for everybody - my wife definitely couldn't get past the nose - but I'm definitely into this. Continued to open up over a couple hours' drinking, leading me to believe this has some really good years left. I'm still new to the Northern Rhones, but if this is typical of the region I'm going to be drinking a lot of wine from here. 2ND DAY: Losing some of the great fruit and complexity - knocked a point off, as I'm now doubting the aging prospects, but still a highly enjoyable bottle.
