  • Brilliant purple. Aroma is sharp, dark, and earthy. Maybe a hint of raisins, but not terribly fruity. Amy identified wood smoke. Mouthfeel is heavily tannic and there's a thin acidity to it. Taste is earthy, the faintest black cherries, and a hit of eucalyptus at the front of the finish. A bit hit. Wood smoke and fresh oak follow in the finish, which is pretty short -4 or 5 seconds.

I really like this. Not too challenging to drink, but it's big, strong, and clean. All in one package. Unlike many other American cabs and merlots I've tried, the fruit flavors seem minimal here. More of an earthy sharp presence. Fantastic. Buy more.
