Quite soft, plummy fruit, mature but not yet old, medium weight, perhaps a bit rustic and lacking in personality, but otherwise enjoyable. With Majestic now charging £17 for this, I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but I am happy to have tried it once.

Now at its peak. (Decanted) Brick rimmed, intense ruby, throwing fine sediment. Nose of rich plum, meat, menthol but still some attractive acidity. Full flavoured, medium-long, plum fruits, slight mint, soft tannins. Drinking well now but needs rich jus. Don't keep any longer. Very enjoyable, good VFM.

Quite dark colour with some orange at rim Earthy nose, stewed plums, some old leather Some tannin, though generally soft, strong herbaceous streak Not much length OK not bad, around £15 at majestic

This Left Bank Bordeaux is nicknamed the 'Pomerol of Haut-Medoc' as it has a more Right Bank typical 85% Merlot and 15% Cab Sauv blend. The 76 hectare Chateau Coufran dates back to the 1700s and the vines are 40 yrs on average. The wine is fermented in stainless steal tanks before spending 12 months in French oak.
At 12 yrs, it's drinking nicely, with fleshy blackberries and plums on the medium-to-light bodied palate, nicely woven together with sage, rosemary and tar notes of the French oak. There's no real length or depth to this wine. But at £12 from Majestic Wines, it's not overs for a Left Bank aged wine. A Wozza 91.5/100 (3.5/5.0) from me.

A chunky mature claret, quite rustic but nicely developed and very good value.
