Tasted blindfolded. Nose of strawberries, bramble, and some oak. A bit of that sweat/gym bag smell I get with cheap wines. Medium-heavy bodied, a bit on the sweet side, and lacking acidity. Dried strawberries, fresh bramble, and a bit of blackberry. Smooth tannins that bring in a bit of oak. Longish sweet strawberry and spiced finish. My guess is a some sort of grocery store level Zin or Zin blend at the $10ish price point.
Blindfold off. The first thing I notice are the legs on the glass – thick and plentiful. The wine is a dark purple ruby in color. Still going to hold by my guess. This is not that bad and will have mass market appeal.
The reveal: 2018 Sterling Vintner’s Collection Meritage. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this outside of the sweetness. Straightforward and would be a great party wine. My partner paid $5.85 for this bottle, and that is a great deal at that price!

13.5% alcohol; composite cork, 2 mm maximum wine penetration, aroma of cork glue and stone fruit; medium weight foil; medium legs, dark purple; opened, vinturied, and tasted 30 minutes later at approximately 12 degrees C; weak nose with faint notes of stone fruit; a notably straightforward wine (lack of complexity), medium to full bodied with muted tannins, on a fruit-pulp base with notes of blueberries, kiwi, stone fruit; little evidence of minerals, earth, wood, or metal; notably lacking in sourness or bitterness; to accompany its short fruit-mash finish, pair with fried chicken, hamburgers, bison burgers; a good wine to enjoy while camping
