The problem with these old Jam-monsters is how will they come out? Practically undrinkable upon release 15.3%, MASSIVELY EXTRACTED, teeth staining, food obliterating, palate searing..... and with relatively little historical record to go by, corporate ownership changes, style changes, technology, etc etc, you pretty much have a crap shoot when you decide to lay one of theses down for a decade.
Well, on this occasion I am happy (more like relieved actually) to report that the gnarly teenager has become a respectable middle aged man. The alcohol hasn't burned through the rest of the flavors and the old vine zin-ness of this particular bottle has mellowed into a medium bodied, branbleberry and spice, nicely perfumed drink.
The previous reviews of more than 5 years ago didn't do this wine any justice as it seems the most recent reviewer was pining for the JAM-ATTACK of this wine's youth. Brains over brawn has won out again.....

Very fruity, jammy , unusual style for California Zinfandel. Enjoyable but not wonderful. Nearing the end of its drinking window.

Still big. Didn't have to drink it now. Excellent spice throughout. Long finish. Middle had an earthy component I could not identify. Good wine.

Great spicy wine with lots of finish. Fruity, jammy and lots of flavor with a smooth pleasant taste. Yum
