Still on Howell mountain, on the benches. Lots of sweet oak on the nose and palate. From the Crystal Springs vineyard. Westerly face, maybe just a touch green on the as well. Just a bare touch. And then lots of oak grip on the palate.

Premiere Napa Valley; 2/22/2023-3/25/2023 (Napa, California): Fantastic tasting at Dana Estates, the 2019s are all showing very well. The Onda was the highlight of the tasting - punching way above it's weight, also Helms is certainly my favourite Single vineyard. Jae commented that they finally found the perfect signature blend for Onda, and it is really coming into its own style.
This was the wine of the tasting for me, aromas of cassis, blackcurrant jelly, blackberry coulee, orange peel, dark chocolate, unsmoked tobacco, black pepper and pencil lead. The palate was full bodied, muscular with firm tannins, waves of black fruit, velvety dark chocolate and Indian spices filled the palate which lead to a layered and succulent mid-palate finishing long and lingering. 96++
Decanted for two hours in a decanter, then followed over the next 2-4 hours in a glass.
Plush, jammy, very fruit-forward. The nose is sweet with violets, berries, and plums. The body is surprisingly light, with berries, plums, and alcohol heat mixing pleasantly. Not nearly as tannic as I'd expected. Overall the impression was *incredibly* primary.
This is still quite young. It's hard for me to guess how the Onda will evolve in the bottle over time, but I'll still give it another few years before popping another one.

Vinter Dinner for Napa in Newport (Supporting Cure Duchenne) (Pacific Club - Newport Beach): Drinking this next to the 05 Helms and 18 Lotus wasn't really fair. By comparison, it was the most fruit forward, jammy and lush offering on the table. That being said, this was really enjoyable, with lovely pure fruit showing off notes of creme de cassis, blackberries, vanilla extract and tilled soil. On the palate, the tannin profile is wonderfully refined, with a suave mouthfeel and layers of beautiful fruit. As you'd expect, it doesn't have the overall complexity or depth of the Dana SVD's, but it's still super fun to drink.
