Deep garnet color, rich, spicy notes of black raspberry, currants, cinnamon, sandalwood, rose and mulberry. Palate is mature and required an hour to fully open, but offers roasted plum and cherry flavors but with a modest finish. Less complex and substantial than prior bottle.

Cherry cough syrup, sweet tobacco, vosne spice, anise, raspberry, and rose. Starts off subtle and builds in a quite lovely manner. With time, a fascinating scent of walnuts emerges. Well balanced palate, mature soft tannin and medium light texture. Pleasing flavors of cherry, red berries, licorice, rose hips and earthly mushroom compote. A lighter, feminine style to start but takes on a masculine tone over a couple hours. Drinking very nicely at this point.

A Multi Birthday Celebration (Tocco - Winnetka IL): Red cherry aromas and flavors, maturing gracefully, well supporting with Asian five spice. Prototypically Vosne Grand Cru with its sneaky power lurking behind all that spice. At its peak now through the next 5+ years.

2001 vs 2002 DRC tasting with a few others; 10/20/2018-10/21/2018 (Marcel's by Robert Wiedmaier, DC and Bryan's house): Expressive nose displaying ripe red and black fruit, raspberry jam, cherry liqueur, candied blackberry, dark caramel, cola, Vosne spice and earth. Excellent concentration, tightly packed concentrated red fruit, rich and deeply toned, good acidity, strong earthy mineral, and a long concentrated red fruit and caramel driven finish. This is the most youthful and masculine wine, slightly lacking charm and complexity. It will need another decade to reach the youthful peak.

2001 Red Burgundy at Chez Hugo (Chez Hugo, Baltimore): Lovely perfume, earthy yet floral, with lovely cherry fruit and Vosne spice on the nose. Rose petals, cherry fruit, and with beautiful inner mouth perfume. A wonderful mix of fruit, florals and soil. Great lift and freshness to its medium weight yet powerful frame. Finishes long and with a little herbal leafiness I really like. Shows quite a bit of similar background to the Arnoux RSV. More understated and maybe holding back than the more open and singing Arnoux. Beautiful nonetheless.

(Giroud Camille Romanée Saint-Vivant) Medium, medium-plus colour. Again like the Malconsorts a very cold bottle that also takes some time to come round. The nose whilst reticent starts with a little oak that slowly fades to reveal a classic, slightly floral RSV of many dimensions. Warm it in the mouth and you start to see a little action, tightly wound concentration and beautifully covered structure. This was a wine that continued to improve over a long period of time. Another wine to wait for, but it will surely be excellent.
