Initially the brown coloration, light/faded rim and secondary notes make you think this is old. Then the tannins and heat kick in and rip hard. Brown sugar, baked red fruit, cherry liqueur, plum and vanilla. Funky stuff in an earthy not gamey way. Rustic and more of a food wine but still very good.

Glass at a restaurant by coravin. Rough notes largely from memory.
Powerful nose with licorice, leather, shoe polish character. Dense in the mouth with black fruit, varnish, new leather, some vanilla. Fairly long finish with some mint. By the end of the glass there’s a big Gorgonzola character and it feels like this is just starting to open; I’m sure would’ve improved for a few hours of air.
Strong tannins obviously though for me at least this isn’t difficult to drink, though I’m sure will be better in another ten years. Obviously a very serious wine and I like it but doesn’t have the wow factor to me of great Nebbiolo or Sangiovese.

Tasting: Very special wine, not sure what to make of it. Also rustic and tannic. First I thought a young Barolo.

serious wine! presumably still needs many years? Decanted several hours first.

This will be a great wine in 10 years, tannins are still rough, but the fruit is really nice; shows great balance and long finish.
