Community Tasting Notes (13) Avg Score: 90.2 points

  • Prior bottle was almost 9 months ago and my notes were very much in line with expectations as this wine continues to evolve as I'd hoped. Nose was essentially the same with pear, lemon and mineral, but it seemed a bit more balanced than previously. Still between light and medium bodied and the flavor profile of pear and melon up front with white and yellow apple through the middle remains much the same. But what has changed is the fruit notes seemed to have gained a bit of definition as well as integration. Acidity, minerals and lightly tart white fruit on the backside provide the structure, which was in better balance with the fruit than in my prior bottle. The overall effect was that the wine showed improved harmony and completeness. Should be able to maintain this level over the next few years.

  • Prior bottle was almost 18 months ago and the wine has improved along the lines I'd hoped, justifying the score I originally gave it. Strong white pear mixed with lemon and a mineral background on the nose. Between light and medium bodied with pear and white melon upfront, showing more expression than previously. Mid-body has opened up noticeably, especially towards the back. White apple with a touch of yellow apple now as well. The acidity is in much better balance, still providing good support as well as length through the finish, but the mid-body fruit notes are much better defined than previously. Overall, a slightly lighter style and a different fruit profile than the 2018, but coming into balance nicely. Should continue to improve along these lines and I'll plan to open my next bottle in Q1 2024.

  • It's not often I can say that a white wine will improve on day 2, but I present to you this 2019 Forge Freese Riesling. Tight on PnP, but opens up on day 2 with notes of stone fruit, Meyer lemon, and Jonathan apple, flanked by hints of minerality and lively acidity. A sea salt note weaves in late, lingering on the medium-long finish. Love it.

  • Pear, lemon and mineral notes on the nose. Between light and medium bodied (12% ABV) with pear and green melon upfront. Starts to broaden through the middle, showing white apple notes, but the acidity, along with tart citrus notes come in and while they provide solid structure, they conceal some of the complexity. As it warms, starts to come together on the backside with the tart notes in better balance with the mid-body. My hope is that it continues to develop along these lines and I'll plan to open my next bottle in early Fall 2022.
