This is always surprisingly convincing, and has to be one of the best Italian Pinots... I should probably try more from Aosta and Adige though... anyway, this is ripe and dense, with a wide array of fruit notes: blood orange, red cherry, plum, a little cassis. There's plenty of classic Pinot earthiness too, and interesting savory stuff: pine forest, damp soil, lapsang suchong, speck. There's also hints of the Barolo zone: licorice, mint, blue flowers. This has a lot going on... it's a little hot and rustic for me to call this elegant Pinot, though it does have fresh acidity and fine tannins. It grips and vibrates long, with intense lifted spicy and earthy notes that really bring Barolo to mind... a little quirky and wild, I like it quite a bit. Probably best over the next 5 years or so.
