Community Tasting Notes (34) Median Score: 88 points

  • Interesting Zinfandel. The nose was pretty much like long term solera Sherry. On the palate, it was still full body with blue fruits and chocolate lasting. Simple and enjoyable.

  • I do not know if this wine was ruined by the synthetic cork or it was bad to start with, but if 80 points is the minimum score for a wine that's drinkable, this gets a 79 only because one of the guys at the table liked it. If 50-59 means you spit it out immediately after it enters your mouth and 60-69 means that you swallow the first sip and then immediately dump the rest of the glass, then this deserves something in the 70s. A melange of bad stuff. Oxidation, amarone raisiny stuff, and after while morphing into a zinfandel port. I can't believe that anyone would have deliberately intended this wine to taste like this, so I'll assume it was the silly plastic red fake cork that was not loose, but that came out a bit too easily. This is a wine that deserves to be used in a reduction sauce. Add some chopped prunes and raisins to match the flavor of the wine and pour over something like roast pork tenderloin.

I have never had the OS bottlings before. Do they still use the fake corks? What dot he new ones taste like. I drank this side by side with the 2010 Black Sears Zin and they could not have been more different. That is one of my best zins ever, and this was . . . not.

  • Yuck. Effervescent, corked, spoiled, oxidized, something. Worst tasting wine I have ever had. Synthetic cork seemed loose in the neck. Have had to pour 5-6 bottles away since they are all like this. Same problem as others reported below in '09 and '10.

  • Harsh alcohol tast. Past its prime, could not finish bottle.
