Japanese Whisky Tasting (Brandy Library, NYC): In a tasting of eight Japanese Whiskys this was the W(hisky) OTN! The most balanced and harmonious whisky of the tasting -- exceeding even the Hakushu 17 yr. -- and with more presence (not as feminine). Notes of yellow fruits, flowers and sandalwood on the nose. The palate presents a complex, but harmonious blend of fruits with a touch of spice from the Mizunara oak. The finish is smooth and silky, with a touch of sweetness. A wonderful whisky to be sought out.

Served neat at Engawa @ Hamyard, London. Soft, elegant, gentle but very complex. Floral, soft touches of wood and caramel. Very silky and proper quality.

Medium golden colour shot with amber; gentle and beautifully aromatic nose with lots of nuances, aromas of sandalwood from the Mizunara, sweet barley, field flowers and heather, roses and lilies, lemon and melon; the palate is elegant and poised, gentle and flowing, soft but fresh, with a darker character than the nose, black cherries, subtle vanilla and even a hint of cocoa; the finish is lighter and sweeter again, with a touch of lychee, and has good resonance and length. Understated, refined and complex. Lovely stuff.

Apple, again closer to Scotch. Peat hits you at the end
