  • This rich and layered Pritchard Hill Cabernet needs years to calm down, but it has an intensity and polish that are quite promising. Dark red in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, black licorice, pencil lead, and anise. Flavors of blueberry pie, milk chocolate, and cooked bay leaf, with a finish that is silky in the mouth but teeth-stainingly tannic on the palate. 14.5% alcohol.

I believe the hype on this wine, but it’s nowhere near ready to open. I drank this on the same night as a 2018 Materium, which had a similarly polished and sweet profile (TRB strikes again) - but the Melanson, perhaps due to its elevation, offered additional depth and graininess. (Read: the Materium will probably be better the next 3-4 years, and the Melanson will probably be better thereafter.) 94 at the moment, with real upside in 2023 or later.
