Pnp later in the evening for Maureen and Scott. Drank pretty well right from the open. Better by 1 point maybe over the next hour or two. Just a solid Napa cab. Not overly fruity, nor heavy. Pretty classic cab notes enjoyed by all.
From a 375 Saffron Vineyard—I see these notes are mixed between Saffron and Wildcat. Since the Saffron entry is less populated I will use this one
Decanted about 2 hours before I first tasted and I was worried I had either left it too long or the bottle had been damaged. The fruit seemed very mature, on the border of being stewed. It was dark and plummy, nose was reticent, tannins grippy, not as much perceived acid as I would normally expect for VGS cab.
Left it for another hour or so then consumed with dinner. Much better and I thought it was the food.
Last 1/2 glass at the end of the night was excellent. At least 5 hours after opening. Fruit was no longer stewed but rich and ripe, everything seemed more integrated.
Paul tasted at the various intervals and was in agreement—would have said borderline flawed at first, but then drinking very nicely later. Strange but good to validate it wasn’t just my palate being finicky after a day of travel.
Pnp, slow ox'd over 2-3 hours. Rough texture, grainy and gritty at the start, then smoothed out considerably over those 3 hours. Graphite, a bit of tobacco/cigar box, nice dark red fruit. Def got creamier as the night went on......getting closer to 93 by the end.
Pnp tableside at our fav little Italian joint tonight. Ready to go with 10 minutes of air. Dark, almost opaque purple in the glass, nose of sweet dark red/blue fruit. Soft mouthfeel, balanced with well integrating tannins and perfect acidity. A hint of cedar on the nose and back end of the palate as well. These are ready to be had, whereas many Napa '18s are not. I attribute that to the overall elegance of the style of winemaking chosen here at this producer. Very nice......
