Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2016 Edition; 10/21/2016-10/23/2016 (Piedmont, Italy): From the one of a kind cellar of the Ciau del Tornavento. Still in its presentation box and was probably sleeping there since release. Copper pink in color, vibrant yeasty, light honey, earthy nose. On the palate it is very much alive albeit well evolve but it still had a spring in its stride. An amazing experience! 95?96?

1982 and other wines: Darker colour than the first time I had this. Nose of sweet tea, some burnt sugar, less mushrooms than previously, but there's rye bread, raisins, smoked meat and some medicine and herbs. Quite interesting to see its development over time.

Vintage Champagne: Mushrooms and rye bread on the nose as well as salty meat. Soft palate, earthy with a hint of caramel, has its own character. Burgundian feeling to it. Certainly an interesting wine, but not a good QPR.

Delicious champagne. Smokey, with burned caramel and sweet fruit. Almost like a dessert. Still very fresh even though I thought it was older. Depressing though to realize how long you have to wait for these things to happen.

This wine gave away a nice ready bouquet initially with tones of burned candy...After a while in the glass it was evident that the fruit was not really there this vintage. Not as flirty as a Dom Ruinart vintage rosé can be.
