  • I went in with high expectations but the 2013 Priorat Vi de Villa Gratallops was a disappointment to me. It's intense bouquet of black currants and tobacco leaf contrasted by menthol and camphor makes for an interesting introduction. The silky textures, cool-toned wild berry fruits and salty minerals keep you interested--but there's a dip in the mid-palate that comes across as airy yet... vacant. Fine tannins linger under an air of balsamic spices, clove and lavender. However, the impression this leaves me with is one of confusion. I hope that, with time in the cellar, the 2013 will reveal something more interesting.

  • Ripe dark fruit, dense and powerful, some earth and chalk and a moderately firm finish. Lacks some finesse, but very good and should have a few years ahead of it.
