Wanted to check in on this producer/vintage. This is a lovely wine. Bright red fruited nose with earthy cranberry, strawberry, a little floral herbs de Provence. Medium weight, bright and fruity now, with good acid and soft tannins emerging. Nice tart peppery finish. A gorgeous ‘19, should develop nicely for 5-10 years.

I can imagine the debate on this one: Old BurgSnob: Well, it doesn’t really taste like Volnay. New PinotFreak: what are you talking about? It’s delicious! Old BurgSnob: It has none of the Volnay perfume. New PinotFreak. Shut up, killjoy, and appreciate t for what it is!
Pnp. Initial scents full of maraschino cherry, cut flowers, slight touch of clove. Nice mineral aspect to both scent and taste. Still very primary, and too soon to really ask for telltale Volnay characteristics. Very hard for me to see where this will go in time. I have my doubts that it will ever be a textbook example of Volnay femininity. However, it is very tasty, obviously Burgundian, delightfully light on its feet. Primary but still well balanced.
Score: 92-93. Relative to expectations:++

3/9/2022 - Gargantua Likes this wine:
Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting (3/9 Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting, NYC): Almost showing as well as the village Volnay at this juncture. Tight, hard to read, served too cold.
