2000 is not a relatively good year in Barrosa, South Australia, but this wine is amazingly concentrated and fruity. More Cab than Shiraz. Very good cork after 15+ years in cellar!

Menthol, tobacco, milk chocolate. Medium bodied, in between having primary and secondary characters. May be better in 3-4 years time and I think it has the structure to develop over that time.

Day 1 this was very closed - far too young to open (probably 90+) if scored with a distracting sweet kirsch quality to the nose. Day 2 saw a totally different wine that really lived up to its reputation. Nose of smoky bacon, kirsch that mellowed to cherries on Day 2, blackberry, cassis, some creamy coconut; cloves, pepper and cedar start to lift. Palate is assertive, almost plush by day 2 with great tannic structure. Palate builds with blackcurrant, spicy oak. Long, long licorice finish.
