Hilarious. Found this hiding in the cellar. Last bottle - my kids said let's do some Cali Chard. Bought at Mollie Stone in Burlingame around 2000. Still holding quite well, in perfect shape - a California Chardonnay to its core. Very tasty.

it seems like the days of drinking chardonnay within 2 years of release are over. more and more, i'm enjoying the premium producers at age 5 and older. like this wine for instance. dude, this was really good. 97 was the first vintage i ever bought of this wine, and while my own are long gone, a friend pulled it out of his cellar last night for our perusal.
not decanted. ha! a nod to the thread about the 02. but make no mistake about it, newton unfiltered chards are not for the feint of heart. it's always a richer, fuller bodied example of the varietal, and a bit of a guilty pleasure. i just feel it remains on the right side of the bloated fence, and keeps the balance real.
so, the bottle age on this was kinda cool. the oak wasn't as flashy, and there was a delicious creaminess and big finish. drink 'em if ya got 'em.

Surprising complex and tasty for its age. darker color and good butter/oak while still showing fruit underneath. Very full-bodied.
