Super fragile and clearly on the way down, but for a brief hour or so, this was spectacular. Leather, dessicated cherry and blackberry, prune, mushrooms, and still a hint of acidity left.

Last bottle. Great fill and color, but waited too long -- now dried out. As the last reviewer noted two years ago, the fruit has faded. At its best in 2012-2013. Well, it's only a Barbera. Drink up and hope for bottle variation in your favor.

3rd and last bottle from my cellar, and I should have followed my last tasting note from 4 years ago when I said drink up as fruit is starting to fade. Nice purple plum in color, but not much on the nose. Earth and minerals with a hint of bitter cherry on the palate. A disturbing slight element of funk on the nose and palate. Much better the 2 last times tried where there was no funk and more fruit.

To my surprise, barely readier today than five years ago. A tremendous wine from a classic vintage with miles to go. If this is any indication, don't go near Giacosa's 2001 Barolos or Barbarescos for at least another decade.

Either way beyond its prime, or something was flawed because it smelled like vinegar.
